As part of the Environmental Research Center's cultural season activities, Assistant Lecturer Israa Tariq Rahim gave a lecture entitled (Benefits and Uses of Probiotics) in which she explained the health benefits of consuming them in sufficient quantities. They are often called "good bacteria" or "friendly", as they help maintain a healthy balance of microbes in the intestines.

Lecture entitled (Gene Therapy)

Within the activities of the Cultural Season of the Environmental Research Center, Lecturer Dr. Marwa Khaled Razzaq gave a lecture entitled (Gene Therapy) where the lecture dealt with the gene therapy technique which includes modifying genes inside a person's cells to treat or prevent diseases and defective genes can be corrected in several ways which are replacing the defective gene, disabling the defective gene, introducing a new gene. In general, gene therapy represents a major advance in modern medicine.

As part of the Environmental Research Center's cultural season activities, Lecturer Dr. Imad El-Din Hatem Abdel gave a lecture entitled (Health Effects of Microbial Environment in Hospitals: Challenges and Solutions) The lecture dealt with hospital-acquired infections, or what are called healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), which are infections that patients acquire while receiving healthcare and were not present or in the incubation period upon admission to the hospital. These infections are one of the most prominent challenges facing healthcare systems globally, due to their negative impact on patient health and increased mortality rates.

The Environmental Research Center at the University of Technology actively participated in the 2nd International Scientific Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development, organized in collaboration with Komar University of Science and Technology in Sulaymaniyah – Kurdistan, Iraq, Universitas PGRI Ronggolawe (UNIROW) from Indonesia, and the Training and Research Center in Transport Engineering at the University of Kufa.

A group of distinguished researchers from the center contributed to the conference with scientific studies addressing important environmental issues. Prof. Dr. Zainab Baha Mohammed, Director of the Environmental Research Center, and Dr. Abbas Jawad Kadhem, Head of the Sustainable Development Department, presented a research study titled:

"Assessing the Deteriorating Water Quality of Tigris River in Baghdad Using Water Quality Index and Statistical Analysis"

This study uses water quality indicators and statistical analysis to highlight the declining water quality of the Tigris River in Baghdad.

Additionally, researchers Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azhar Mahmoud Haleem, Asst. Lecturer Nawras Kazem Rassan, Asst. Lecturer Ban Samari Atiya, and Asst. Lecturer Iman Kazem Mutashar presented a study titled:

"Assessment of Heavy Metal Levels of Some Important Medicinal Herbs and Spices Used as Flavoring in Iraqi Cuisine"

The research focuses on evaluating heavy metal concentrations in commonly used medicinal herbs and spices in Iraqi cuisine and their potential impact on public health.

Furthermore, researchers Asst. Lecturer Abdulaziz Ahmed Hamad, Asst. Lecturer Ali Nasser, Asst. Lecturer Ola Hamed, and Asst. Lecturer Ahmed Alwan contributed with a study titled:

"Evaluation of Soil Characteristics in the City of Al-Muthanna and Comparison of Some Characteristics of Soils in Iraq"

This study examines soil properties in Al-Muthanna and compares various physical and chemical characteristics of different soil types in Iraq.

These scientific contributions reflect the center's commitment to promoting sustainable environmental research and developing scientific solutions for environmental challenges in Iraq. They also strengthen academic collaboration between Iraqi and international universities in the fields of environment and sustainable development.

The Department of Medical Physics, College of Health and Medical Technologies, organized a scientific visit for 11 students (fourth year-morning study) from the aforementioned department under the supervision of Dr. Issam Ahmed Tawfiq to the Environmental Research Center (ERC) on Sunday, 9/2/2025. The target of this visit was to obtain scientific and practical information relating to their graduation project (gas emissions resulting from the operation of electric generators at specific regions of Baghdad).
The head of the Department of Environmental Pollution (Dr. Mukheled Amer Al-Sameraiy) and the coordinator of this visit (Dr. Iman Shaker Awad-lecturer at the ERC) welcomed the attendees. He gave an introductory brief for the establishment of the ERC, scientific and administrative structure, research, studies, tasks and duties carried out by the ERC. Generally, he gave a detailed explanation concerning the environmental pollution in terms of causes, effects and treatment methods. Specifically, he focused on the gaseous pollutants, which was the objective of the visit.
The visiting delegation (students) was taken to the laboratories in the Department of Environmental Technology and then the Department of Environmental Pollution. The staff of these laboratories explained the nature of their work in terms of conducting the environmental tests. Ass. Lect. Talib Kamel Abd gave an introductory lecture on the devices available in the Air Pollution Laboratory, which are used to assess air quality.
Finally, the attendees expressed their great admiration for what they saw and heard. They acknowledged the ERC. Before leaving, commemorative photos were taken to document this visit.
