Professor Dr. Zainab Baha Mohammed, Director of the Environmental Research Center, participated in the launch of the comprehensive access to sustainable water and sanitation services program in Iraq, sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development and will be implemented by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in cooperation with the Ministry of Construction and Housing.
The doctor spoke about the projects that were implemented at the University of Technology by the United Nations Children's Fund, including the wastewater treatment plant, which is considered one of the sustainable projects that the university aims to achieve, as well as the sustainable garden project with an area of 1200 square meters. At the end of the talk, the doctor thanked all those in charge of the programs that have been and will be implemented in Iraq in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development.

The Department of Materials Engineering organized a scientific visit for 20 students (fourth year-morning study) to the Environmental Research Center (ERC) on Sunday, 26/11/2024. This visit was supervised by Prof. Dr. Nevin Gamal, Ass. Prof. Aseel Mahmoud and Ass. Lect. Nizar Jabbar.
The Head of the Department of Environmental Pollution (Lect. Dr. Mukheled Amer Al-Sameraiy) welcomed the attendees in the department. He gave an introductory brief for the establishment of the ERC, the administrative structure and the tasks and duties carried out by the ERC. Then he stated that the Instrumental Analysis Laboratory and the Soil and Water Laboratory obtained an accreditation certificate (TL 012) from the Iraqi Accreditation Authority (IQAS)-Laboratory Accreditation Department-Ministry of Planning under the specification (ISO/IEC 17025:2005) in the field of chemical testing and is now on its way to renewal. After that the attendees moved to the Instrumental Analysis Laboratory. He talked about the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) and the importance of this device in investigating and analyzing a wide range of heavy metals in the soil and water. In addition, other devices in the lab were covered in his speech.
After that, the attendees moved to the soil and water laboratory and he talked about the nature of this lab in carrying out the extent range of physiochemical properties in soil and water. Some questions and inquiries issued by the students were replied by Lect. Iman Shaker Awad-research lecturer at the ERC.
Finally, the attendees expressed their great admiration for what they saw and heard. They acknowledged the department and the ERC. Before leaving, a group of commemorative photos were taken to document this.

Based on cooperative role playing among the departments of the University of Technology, A workshop titled “Skills development for employees working in engineering projects” is made to develop occupational skills for careers who undertaking engineering projects and jobs. The event is organized based on cooperative framework between Environmental Research Center and Continuous Learning Center at the University of Technology.

Since the potential role played by Environmental Research Center in the scientific and social communities, A voluntary action of visiting Dar Zahrat Al-Alawiya for children care and special needs is made on Tuesday, 11/12/2024 at 11:00 am.
The visit was supervised by the presidency of Environmental Research Center (Prof.) Zainab Baha Muhammad, along the engagement of the staff members. The aim of this action is to dedicate the human communication with special needs people for more enhancing moral support, and to provide financial support. The visitors met with the administration responsible for the home and conducted a field inspection of the condition of the resident children , who are (females under the age of twelve years).
Both staff members and children were very happy to meet the visiting delegation and presented a wonderful singing show their love for the country and showcase high standards in following the instructions of the administration of the home. At the end of the visit, the administration of the home expressed its thanks and gratitude to the visitors for this generous initiative, wishing and praying for those who worked on it to be accepted and satisfied.

In behalfe if the presidency of the University of Technology, along direct supervision of the Director of the Environmental Research Center, Prof. Zainab Baha Muhammad,
Environmental Research center is organised the 1st environmental bazaar (Sustainable Future Bazaar) on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in cooperation with with range of governmental departments, scientific organisations and private companies at the main campuse of the University.
The bazaar included four pavilions: "Sustainable Health pavilio" (which displayed sustainable foods and environmentally friendly products, as well as healthy recipes and models of healthy and sustainable foods and products).
"Green Innovation pavilion" (which displayed innovative projects in renewable energy, recycling, etc.).
"Sustainable Agriculture pavilions" (displaying hydroponic and vertical farming systems, modern farming methods, and environmentally friendly plants).
"Environmental Art pavilions" (converting recycled materials into works of art, drawing, sculpture, or any artwork related to the environmental aspect and sustainable development goals).
Along outdoor activities, there was a discussion session entitled (Sustainable Challenges in Iraq) held in the Department of Mechanical Engineering where the speaker Assistant Professor Ibrahim Mahdi Al-Sudani "Member of the Permanent National Negotiating Team for Climate Change Issues".
